As the Kansas City Royals prepare for the 2024 MLB season, where they will face the AL Central Division Champions, the Minnesota Twins, the focus is on their experienced catcher and team captain, Salvador Perez. After a rollercoaster 2023 season, Perez entered his 15th big league Spring Training with a fresh purpose – to guide the Royals to the playoffs.

Salvador Perez had a strong showing in 2023, making a significant impact with 23 home runs and 80 RBIs. Although his batting average didn’t reach great heights, his leadership on and off the field stayed strong. As the Royals’ fourth captain in club history, Perez guides a team that underwent substantial changes in the offseason.

The Kansas City Royals, led by owner John Sherman, significantly invested in acquiring notable players such as Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, Will Smith, Chris Stratton, Nick Anderson, and John Schreiber. Perez was pleasantly surprised and excited about the team’s dedication to improving the roster, especially in pitching.

As reported on MLB.com by Anne Rodgers early this week, Perez is excited for the upcoming season. He’s thrilled about reuniting with some familiar faces and eager to delve into the details of his new teammates, particularly the pitchers. The experienced catcher recognizes the excitement and enthusiasm generated by the recent signings and the boost to the team’s spirit from Bobby Witt Jr.’s significant contract extension.

Even with accolades such as a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger, Perez’s primary goal is still making it to the playoffs. The ex-World Series MVP is driven by a longing to relive the thrill of postseason triumph.

In 2023, the Royals had a challenging season, ending up at the bottom of their division with a 56-106 record. Nevertheless, Perez views it as an educational opportunity for the young players on the roster. He highlights the development of players such as Michael Massey, Vinnie Pasquantino, Maikel Garcia, and the exceptional Bobby Witt Jr. Despite facing challenges, Perez is prepared to leave the past behind and focus on the possibilities that 2024 holds.

The team captain fully embraces his leadership role, especially with the young players and new additions to the team. Confident in the talent and potential of the Royals. His guidance will surely be pivotal in guiding the team to a playoff berth and possibly competing for the division crown.

Salvador Perez is gearing up for the 2024 season, ready to lead the Royals and their fans with determination toward a return to the postseason. The additions during the offseason and Perez’s guidance have paved the way for an exhilarating and hopeful season for the Kansas City Royals in 2024.
