Only 19.8 percent of representatives in Congress are women, per the Center for American Women and Politics, and only 25.3 percent of seats in state legislatures are occupied by women. Seeing a woman like Balter, who represents, in part, the SU community and a changing political climate, is a remarkable symbol of the progress women are making in politics.

Democratic Women of Cayuga County endorses Dana Balter for Congress
The group cited Balter’s focus on affordable health care, economic growth, environmental protections and public education. Balter has made those issues high priorities during her congressional bid.
Barbara Post, who serves as treasurer of the Democratic Women of Cayuga County, said the group was also impressed with the campaign organization Balter has formed since entering the race in September.

Onondaga County Democrats endorse Dana Balter
Onondaga County Democrats today endorsed Dana Balter to run for the 24th U.S. Congressional District seat.
The county Democratic Committee met Saturday morning to vote at the Local 317 Teamsters hall on Spencer Street in Syracuse. The voting lasted about three hours. Balter won after the first round of voting.
