Syracuse, NY – On Monday, Dana Balter, Democratic candidate for Congress in NY-24, released the following statement calling out Rep. John Katko’s failure to denounce his GOP colleagues for storming into a secure Capitol Hill room, also known as a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF). The GOP House members broke with cybersecurity protocol and brought their personal cellphones in the SCIF with them. Members of Congress and their personal devices are high-value targets for hackers looking to gain access to secure information.
“As a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, Congressman Katko should be deeply troubled by his GOP colleagues’ stunt that violated our basic cybersecurity protections. It’s been days and Rep. Katko has failed to condemn this outrageous security breach that makes us less safe. Once again, Rep. Katko’s silence speaks volumes as he continues to put party over country.”
