The Royals Player Development account on X announced that they have traded catcher Logan Porter to the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations or a player to be named later. Porter was hitting .319/.428/.575 with an 1.003 OPS including nine doubles, six home runs and 22 RBI in Omaha (AAA).

Porter was not on the Royals’ 40-man roster, as he was designated for assignment on November 14, 2023. Just a few days later, he signed a minor league contract with the Royals. Porter had a unique journey to making his major league debut with the Royals in 2023. Overcoming injuries and going from being an undrafted free agent to making your major league debut is never easy. He even hit is first big league home run on September 16, 2023.

Unfortunately, Porter wasn’t able to carve out a big-league roster spot due to the emergence of Freddy Fermin and the lack of another position for him to play. The Royals likely made the move as they will need an extra roster spot in Omaha with Kris Bubic’s rehab stint ending. Either way, Porter is an easy guy to root for and we will be wishing him nothing but the best. We will update the article as soon as it is confirmed whether the Royals are receiving cash or the PTBNL.
